This year the AfriSem conference will be held hybrid from Evanston, IL on May 5, 2023. The theme of this year’s conference explores the built environment and the impacts of human-made physical spaces.

Guest panelist: Ojok Okello

Ojok Okello is the Founder and CEO of Okere City, an embodiment of a rural futurist vision: The first sustainable rural city in Uganda. Informed by two decades of extensive work on national and international development projects, public service, and radical community building and organizing, he currently exhibits the diverse skillset of a social entrepreneur, artist, community organizer, and development manager. Specifically, he worked as a senior secretary at Makerere University, a governance expert with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, and a project coordinator at War Child UK. Ojok is an Ashoka Visionary Fellow and a PfAL Fellow at the London School of Economics, where he earned an MSc. in Development Management. He is also a fellow of the YALI East Africa Program.
